Minimum Age Policy
August 2023
As a club our priority is to keep all club members as safe
as possible while on and around the water at all times.
We have a minimum age policy of 8 years old.
Children below 8 with attending parents or guardians who hold current, relevant paddling qualifications, and / or have relevant paddling experience, will be considered on a case by case basis at the sole discretion of the club committee, and the river leaders.
Club Requirements
A child under the age of 18 years must be accompanied
at all times by their parent or guardian while around or on
the water. The parent or guardian must be responsible
for their child at all times during any club session. This is
for safety reasons.
Any parent or guardian accompanying a child under 18
years of age must be able to demonstrate to a club
coach that they can swim confidently in water. The adult
will also be required to demonstrate a wet exit from a
kayak or canoe on the water before their child can
accompany them on a club paddle.
All children who wish to join our club with their
accompanying adult must also be able to swim in water
and may be asked to demonstrate this to one of the
coaches.
Competence on the water
The relevant coach will determine if an individual is
competent and / or capable of undertaking any activity
on the water. The coaches decision is final and if they
deem an activity to be beyond the current capabilities of
a member or child they may, at their discretion, ask a
member / child not to take part in an activity.
We ask all members and potential members to respect
the coaches judgement in all matters.
