A Sunday breakfast paddle.

ree

There is something nice about heading out early on a Sunday morning to the river for a paddle.

It was a great winter morning, chilly but sunny. Meeting up at Eckington Bridge it wasn’t long before we were on the water. Breakfast’s were packed safely in our boats as we did a quick warm up weaving in and out of the bridge arches which was good practice with a bit more flow on the river than normal after all the rain we have had.

With Clive, Russ and Dave in their canoes, Clive ( new guy, not another Clive in the club I hear some say ) in his boat . Nick and myself in our tourers we then headed off upstream to Nafford.

Upon arriving and setting up we couldn’t help but laugh when Russ set up his chair which it can only be described as a folding commode ! A couple of the guys went foraging for some twigs to help get their fires going ready to cook on.

It wasn’t long before the smoke was billowing out the Kelly kettles and stoves. Time to cook bacon and sausages which were soon sizzling away. Lots of chat and banter was had while cooking then we tucked into our breakfast in the sunshine.

Thanks Clive Pearson for cooking mine. With bellies full we packed up and leisurely paddled back to Eckington. Nick and myself were keen to see how fast our vessels would go so were did a sprint for the last 100 yards or so to the jetty. Boy those tourers can move when they want to ! A lovely morning was had by all.
