On Saturday 5 April a group of 15 WKCC members stayed in or near Bala ready for the first of the PUK Three Lakes Challenge. Some of us met in Bala in the evening for a pub meal while others stayed on the campsite for a BBQ. We all met early on the Sunday morning at the Llyn Tegid Foreshore car park in sunshine and little to no wind; perfect! After some group photos - including some by drone (thanks Nick!) - we set off in a mix of canoes and kayaks. Llyn Tegid means 'Lake of Serenity' in English and it really was serene: fabulous weather; calm water surrounded by stunning mountains and scenery. We followed the line of buoys in the middle of the lake and had a couple of 'floating breaks' before reaching the far end of the lake and heading back, stopping at a beach area by the steam railway station at Llangower for lunch. The wind got up a bit on the final stretch but we all made it safely back to the start in just over two hours of paddling (excluding the hour break!). It was a brilliant day and we are now on the PUK leaderboard and have certificates to prove we did it! Here's to the next one on Windermere!
